What Does Love Mean?

What Does Love Mean? See How 4-8 Year-Old Kids Describe Love

21. And the final one — Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge.

The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.

The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife.

Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, “Nothing, I just helped him cry”

A beautiful post. Just after reading this, I’m going to ask my little 4 years daughter “What is Love?”

Love is many things but the hardest part of love is letting the one you love know how much they hurt you without hurting them back.

I’m 20, I’ve always known this one, but I recently learned just how important it is from someone who didn’t. Being hurt by someone you love really hurts because you realize they don’t love you.

Sean RNo Gravatar Jun 02 11 at 9:22 pm

That last one made me cry!!!

Most Children don’t have a tainted sense of love… so they just get it. This brought tears to.my eyes. I wish everyone could understand what real unconditional love means. Because real.love is unconditional.

Love is the unfathomable feeling of passion you feel towards something or someone that no one around you understands. Each and everyone of us feels love and describes it as well as anyone can but it is the limit of our imagination; it is pure.

You know when you read these “love quotes” and every now and then one gives you that feeling where you feel tears form in your eyes’ and you feel inspired to find love… When you get that feeling with that certain person you can get it as easily when they tell you something like, “I bought you your favorite jelly.”

Kelsey, 21No Gravatar Jun 27 11 at 6:26 pm

Love is when you’re with your someone, and your heart feels so full it could burst. Love is when he’s looking at you, just to look. Love is laying in his arms for hours on end, content to just be there.

Lily, 18No Gravatar Jun 28 11 at 12:42 am

We should make it an everyday practice to ask kids questions like these, or to allow kids to ask us these questions. We can learn a lot by hearing the opinions of the younger generation. At my church the children got in front of the congregation and asked the question, “What is God?” There were many different answers, and the kids came up with some unique ones, too. It is interesting to hear what they have to say because it is truly from the heart.

I believe that you can’t honestly believe in love until you have felt it, but when you feel it you’ll know. You’ll just know by the beating of your heart and the sweat on your palm. And it’ll hit you like a speeding train, and you will never expect it. But, thats what makes it worth the wait.

JamesNo Gravatar Jul 09 11 at 8:47 pm

Love is love. It’s an indescribable feeling that can throw you off balance, make you say things and take them back just to make sure you didn’t hurt the person. Love is when you cry and they kiss the tears off of your face, then smile and hold you there until you fall asleep. Love is when you let them do what they need to do, even if you’re not in that plan. …but most of all, love is when you get a small but noticeable ache in your heart when they go away, and then your heart leaps with joy when they come back. …Love is the deepest feeling of joy any person can ever feel. And no one will ever regret it.

My boyfriend and I are 13 years apart. I’m 19. MY friends and family told me I was being guised and that I was too young to know what love was. I lost many of them over this relationship. But the ones who stayed by our sides know better than anyone that neither of us tricked the other into loving them. Don’t you think we would’ve helped it if we could? We finish each others sentences. We wake up and say, ” your breath stinks,” “yours too,” and we kiss. I wish my parents could read what these kids had to say. And I wish they would spend time enough with me to get to know me, and the man who would tear the world apart to save me.

Billy – age 4″

Unless 4-year-old Billy has read Jodi Picoult’s book ‘Handle With Care’, he didn’t say this. The character Willow from the book says this to her mother. I highly doubt Picoult stole this from Billy.

Fail.

CourtneyNo Gravatar Jul 16 11 at 4:03 am

When you love someone, its almost subtle. You don’t even have to think “do i really love them?” or “why do i love them?” You dont need to ask yourself those questions, it just happens. you just know. it’s a feeling of comfortability. you can spend hours and hours with them, and barely say anything at all, and you still have an amazing time. love is not thinking someone is perfect, or telling them that they’re perfect. it’s telling them that they have flaws, but you still love them. to love someone you have to love all of them, not just the good parts that you want to love. you have to love the cranky, the selfish, the annoying, the flawed parts of them too. and if you can fully know someone for who they are, good and not so good, and still wouldnt change a thing, that is love.

Taylor, 16No Gravatar Jul 16 11 at 11:51 pm

Morgan, I couldn’t agree more.

Also, the 19 year old girl dating a 32 year old… That’s messed up yo. you’re gonna be upset with yourself someday on that one.

MatthewNo Gravatar Jul 18 11 at 12:33 am

Love is knowing they will be there for you, ‘for better of for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, til death do you part.’ and knowing they meant it…

DassaNo Gravatar Jul 18 11 at 7:40 am

dont you wish we as adults could keep that childlike love in our hearts!! people would stay together forever!! too many times we forget why we fell in love. why do we try to change the person we love, isnt that why we fell in love with them in the first place? you know the little oddities that once upon a time we thought were so cute?

Number eight and the last one made me cry, kids see the beauty man. I wish I never had to grow up. On my 17th birthday I cried to my mother and asked why I had to grow up. She seemed so sad when I asked this. I wish I never asked her cause I can tell it’s just as painful for her. Man if my brother never died and me and my brothers didn’t grow up I swear my parents would still be sane and my family wouldn’t be so damaged. I need a time machine.

Kids are usually very wise, we just constantly think that they are kids and they don’t have the experience, knowledge, or capabilities of understanding complicated matters. That is where we as human beings, i don’t have to go over the saying for assuming. Maybe if we stop analyzing everything like we have been trained to do, we can finally find that wonderful bliss and peace that children can find so easily, once more.

Love is when someone asks you why you like that person you like so much but you can’t explain it. Its a feeling that comes to your heart and soul and in your mind and soul you know its right.

DevinNo Gravatar Jul 25 11 at 12:02 am

Love takes many forms–across ages and circumstances–but it is fundamentally unconditional and other-centered.
Your love is not about you; it is about others. When your actions/intentions/emotions are at their hearts for the good of someone else, without regard for the benefit it will provide you, that is your love at work.
Instead of waiting for someone to love you, focus on the small (and big) ways you can love others.
We have opportunities every day to choose to be loving and make our little piece of the world a better place.

Love is when you can make the biggest mistake and that other person still loves and cares for you unconditionally. They don’t judge or bring up mistakes from the past. They just love you for who you are and that is what I have with my wonderful husband.

JenniferNo Gravatar Aug 23 11 at 9:51 am

this is adorable really made me think that maybe as we grow up we think too much about it and complicate it and in the end we spoil the simplicity of pure love for ourselves…

AmberNo Gravatar Aug 23 11 at 6:41 pm

this is so sweet it made me tear up a little. Such a wonderful collection!

AnnaNo Gravatar Aug 24 11 at 11:34 pm

This was all marvelous, I got teary eyed from quite few of them. They all touched me a lot, and it made me think about the real meaning of love. Very touching

TarynNo Gravatar Aug 25 11 at 4:46 pm

love is being tagged with this on Facebook by someone who isn’t allowed to talk to but wants to show they still care.

CelesteNo Gravatar Aug 25 11 at 11:56 pm

@Taylor

For 16, you have a very healthy outlook.

You don’t ‘fall’ into love, it grows with you.. then one day you look around and find yourself standing in it.

Love is when he can trust you with his heart again after you broke it too many times.

God is Love.

MitchellNo Gravatar Aug 29 11 at 11:46 pm

:] This is generally a good post, whether its made up or not, its good to remind people what love is.

I think love has million of forms. Small acts of kindness, proposals, kisses, hugs, smiles etc. But the purest form is probably those quiet moments in the day when your with that person. Because you need no way to show affection to this person, you just need a moment to enjoy their company.

CalieNo Gravatar Aug 30 11 at 12:43 am

after reading all of these answers from children ,i asked my 8 yr old son what he thought love was and he just looked at me and said “it’s what the heart wants!!” .I was quite impressed by this answer an thought i would share it.

wanda mckenzieNo Gravatar Aug 30 11 at 2:31 pm

I asked my 8 yr old son what he thought love was and he looked at me and immediately answered ,”it’s what the heart wants.” with a look on his face that i can only describe as though he was thinking that everybody alredy knew that!!

wanda mckenzieNo Gravatar Aug 30 11 at 2:42 pm

Jeez, the last one is just heartbreaking.

AlexandraNo Gravatar Aug 31 11 at 12:23 pm

I asked my niece who’s three and she said “I know Riggs (her puppy) loves me because he always lets me hug him even though I stomped on his paw by mistake. And he didn’t know it was a mistake because he doesn’t know any words yet.”

Love is when something good in your life happens, she is the first one you going to tell .

what a contrast from the post to some of the comments. once we become teenagers love gets so complicated. this post is precious.

lizNo Gravatar Sep 16 11 at 12:37 am

Love is, being stripped of your identity, accused of something you didn’t do, mocked, beaten almost to death, suffering, and then left to die. Not for yourself, but for generations of people. In order for them to live a beautiful and fulfilling life. Some of which never knew you or will ever know you, some who did know you, and those who have yet to know you. Love is GOD & GOD is love, 1 Corinthians 13.

I love a child’s mind, its innocence that is when honesty is still very pure. Unfortunately as we grow older we start to experience the bad in life in which we learn to live and accept it. That is when as an adult it gets complicated and we forget the pure.

Love is when you hold someone’s hand, and say you’ll be always be there to them, family, friend, or lover. Love is when you hug and cherish someone, and look after them. All of these definitions of love are true, as we love someone or some people in all weird and wonderful ways.

love is when ou meet the right person your heart skips a beat. love is when you meet the right person you dont want to let go of them, you care about them, if they were to get hurt you would be by their side helping them, if they left you then you would cry for days be miserable not want to talk to anyone, you would think what happend everything was perfect. LOVE!! thats love dont let them get away you dont controll who walks into your life but u control who walks out and who you want to stay in your life dont let the person you love just get away try your best to keep them in your life :) <3
